Funeral services for Phillip D. Kelly, 46, of Climax, were held Monday, Feb. 22, at Fellowship Baptist Church with Pastor Stanley Phillips and the Rev. Steve Poppell officiating.

Interment with firefighter’s honors followed at Cedar Grove Cemetery with Thomas Josey, Wayne Blanton, Chris Wynn, Frank Kay, Jerry Hatcher and Kenny King serving as active pallbearers.

Born Jan. 24, 1964, in Decatur County, Mr. Kelly died on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010, at his residence.

Mr. Kelly formerly worked for Ware’s Auto and Farm Supply in Climax and was a supervisor with the Decatur County Public Works. He lived all his life in Decatur County, was of the Baptist faith and was a very important part of the Climax Volunteer Fire Department, serving as assistant chief and a first responder. His radio name was Climax-2.

Survivors include his parents, Emmitt and Annette Kelly of Climax; his wife of 27 years, Pamela Cochran Kelly of Climax; a son, Darryl Ryan Kelly of Climax; two daughters, Christy Miller of Bainbridge and LaJonna Renee Cochran of Decatur, Ala.; a sister, Clara Ann Robinson of Iron City, Ga.; two brothers, Rick Kelly and Jeff Kelly, both of Climax; a grandson and several nieces and nephews.

Cox-Ware Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
