Laverne Smith Gay

A memorial service for Laverne Smith Gay, 59, of Bainbridge, will be held Wednesday, Feb. 17, at 11 a.m. at Grace Church with Pastor Andy McQuaid officiating.

Born Oct. 3, 1950, in Donalsonville, Mrs. Gay died on Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, at her residence, with her family by her side.

Mrs. Gay attended West Bainbridge High School and was a hairdresser in Bainbridge for more than 30 years. Her battle with cancer over the last 32 years is a testament to her strength and fortitude. She survived metastatic breast cancer longer than anyone else known in the world. She was a member of Grace Church. Mrs. Gay had a great love for her family, friends, co-workers and customers.

Survivors include her husband, Tommy Gay of Bainbridge; two sons, Kyle Odom of Donalsonville, Ga., and Matt Gay of Bainbridge; two daughters, Kim Gullage of Aiken, S.C., and Erin Whiddon of Gainesville, Ga.; her sister, Linda Hatton of Donalsonville; two brothers, Jimmy Smith and Milton Smith, both of Donalsonville; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; a special aunt, Mary Ellen Lisenby of Donalsonville; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
