James Aligood

Funeral services for James Walter Aligood, 88, of Iron City, were held Friday, Jan. 29, at Iron City Baptist Church in Iron City, Ga., with the Revs. Bob Aligood and Luther Hastey officiating.
Interment followed at Corinth Freewill Baptist Church cemetery in Iron City with Kyle Aligood, Caleb Aligood, Brian Aligood, Billy Ward, Dale Murray and James Ard serving as active pallbearers.
Born in Seminole County, Ga., on June 20, 1921, Mr. Aligood died on Jan. 27, 2010, at Seminole Manor Nursing Home in Donalsonville, Ga.
Mr. Aligood was a member of Iron City Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He was a rural mail carrier for 39 years. He was a district, state and national member of the Rural Letter Carriers Association and also served as mayor of Iron City for 13 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Joe Aligood; a sister, Ada Aligood Fisher; and a brother, Charles Aligood.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Dorothy Aligood of Iron City; two sons, Roger Aligood of Iron City and Doug Aligood of Kissimmee, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Evans-Skipper Funeral Home in Donalsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
