Funeral services for Edward E. Swain, 59, of Donalsonville, formerly of Hahira, Ga., will be held Thursday, Oct. 15, at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Cox-Ware Funeral Home in Bainbridge with Dr. Ron McCaskill officiating.
Interment with full military honors will follow in Fort Mitchell National Cemetery in Fort Mitchell, Ala., (near Columbus, Ga.) on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. Visitation will be held Wednesday, Oct. 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cox-Ware Funeral Home.
Born Jan. 9, 1950, in Medart, Fla., Mr. Swain died on Monday, Oct. 12, 2009, at his residence in Seminole County, Ga.
Mr. Swain was an insurance representative and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a disabled staff sergeant, was a two-time Purple Heart recipient and a member of the Disabled American Veterans organization. He was also a member of the Bainbridge Trail Blazers and a member of First Baptist Church in Donalsonville, Ga.
Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Donna Hoxworth Swain of Donalsonville; four daughters, Heather Robison of Spring Creek, Fla., Jennifer Swain of Crawfordville, Fla., Crystal Vertrees of Panama City, Fla., and June Swain of Donalsonville; four sons, Edward Swain II of Donalsonville, Kyle Swain of Tallahassee, Fla., Shane Fisher of Altha, Fla., and Edward B. Swain of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers, Walter Durrance of Sopchoppy, Fla., and R.D. Swain of Valdosta, Ga.; four sisters, Debbie Swain of Thomasville, Ga., Cathy Stanaland of Cairo, Mary Anne of Thomasville, Ga., and Marie of Tallahassee, Fla.; and 10 grandchildren.
Cox-Ware Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
