Max Childs

Funeral services for Elder Max Childs, 73, of Grady County, Ga., were held Sunday, Aug. 16, at Mizpah Primitive Baptist Church in Grady County with Elders James Smith, Jon Mizell, Walter Todd and W.H. Phillips officiating.

Interment followed in Mizpah Cemetery with Russell Childs, Steven Childs, Tommy Bond, Keith Gilliard, Justin McDowell and Kevin Brooks serving as pallbearers.

Born in Grady County on Nov. 30, 1935, Mr. Childs died at his home on Friday, Aug. 14, 2009.

He was a farmer, livestock producer and ordained elder in the Primitive Baptist Church. Mr. Childs was ordained Aug. 5, 1983, and served as pastor of Mizpah Primitive Baptist Church in Grady County for 27 years from 1983 until June 2, 2009. He also pastored Union Hill Primitive Baptist Church in Grady County for the past nine years. He served as president of the Grady County Farm Bureau and the Grady County Livestock Association. He also served on the Grady County Board of Education and the Grady General Hospital Authority. He was in the Army National Guard.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Carolyn D. Childs; a son, Garry Childs; two daughters, Julie Tomlin of Rome, Ga., and Pamela Childs of Blakely, Ga.; a brother, Elwyn Childs, and two granddaughters.

Clark Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements.
