Lucy Sweet

Funeral services for Lucy B. Sweet, 93, of Bainbridge, were held Monday, June 8, at the First African Baptist Church with her son, the Rev. Joe L. Sweet Jr., officiating.
Interment followed at Jonas Lobe Cemetery with Christopher Sweet, Leo Sweet, Dr. Joe Sweet, Reginald Jeffery, Brisco Jackson and Dr. John A. Sweet serving as active pallbearers.
Born May 16, 1916, in Decatur County, Mrs. Sweet died Friday, June 5, 2009, at her residence.
Mrs. Sweet was a graduate of Union Normal School and became a tireless educator in the Miller County School System for 31 years. She held degrees from Albany State College, Florida A&M University and Valdosta State University. She was an organist at the First African Baptist Church and was active in the Georgia Missionary Baptist Convention.
Mrs. Sweet was preceded in death by her husband, Joe L. Sweet Sr. and 13 siblings.
Survivors include two sons, the Rev. Joe L. Sweet Jr. of Bainbridge and Dr. John A. Sweet of Fort Wayne, Ind.; three sisters, Laura Jeffery Fulton of New York, N.Y., Allen Jeffery Edwards of Atlanta, Ga., and Claudephia Jeffery Benton of New York; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Bruton Mortuary was in charge of funeral arrangements.
