Ulysses Johnson

Funeral services for Ulysses Johnson, 91, of Camilla, Ga., were held Saturday, April 18, at Second New Salem M.B. Church with Pastors Eldrick Tyrone Jacobs Sr. and C. McGill Brown of the Second African Baptist Church in Savannah, Ga., officiating.
Interment followed in the church’s cemetery with Mr. Johnson’s friends and family serving as active pallbearers.
Born Nov. 23, 1917, in Mitchell County, Ga., Mr. Johnson died on April 11, 2009, at Archbold Medical Center in Thomasville, Ga.
Mr. Johnson was a retired farmer and a member of Second New Salem M.B. Church. He had served as secretary of the Bainbridge District of the Camilla Baptist Association for 40 years. He served on the board of directors of the Mitchell County Department of Family and Children Services and was an adviser to the Mitchell County Farm Service Agency.
Survivors include his wife, Clyde Bowman Johnson; a son, Dr. Cleveland Johnson of Atlanta, Ga.; three daughters, Connie Johnson Cole of Decatur, Ga., Rosalyn Johnson Truitt of Savannah, Ga., and Mary Frances Bennett of Auburndale, Fla.; two sisters, Thelma Johnson Hall and Aretha Johnson of Newton, Ga.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Jacobs Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
