Minnie Clemmons

Funeral services for Minnie “Sweetie” Clemons, 85, of Bainbridge, will be held today, April 11, at 11 a.m. at Midway M.B. Church in Jakin, Ga., with the Rev. Hayward Teague officiating.

Interment will follow in the church’s cemetery with family and friends serving as active pallbearers.

Born April 30, 1923, at Early County, Ga., Mrs. Clemons died on Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at Memorial Manor in Bainbridge.

She was retired from working as a cook at the Bainbridge State Hospital in 1987 and had also worked as a housekeeper. She was a member of Midway Missionary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Julius Clemons Sr., and three children, Roy Clemons, John Henry and Baby Clemons.

Survivors include three sons, Julius, Terry and Phillip Clemons; four daughters, Mary Hudson, Margaret Duvall, and Brenda and Sharon Clemons; a brother, Melvin Young of Saffold, Fla.; two sisters, Lizzie Hunter and Catherine Lane, both of Tampa, Fla.; 25 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; a granddaughter she raised, Catherine Johnson; other relatives and three special friends, Daniel Knight, Willie Coleman and Willie Young.

Bruton Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements.
