Hello, Bowlers!

Long time no see! This economy and business have kept me pretty busy lately. These articles can take an hour to three hours to write, so feedback would help. I really appreciate you coming up to me and saying you like the blog. It helps me focus. I will try to be more timely this year with the reports and stories.

The first thing on the agenda is Special Olympics. We will be hosting a bowling Special Olympics event on Saturday, Aug. 28 at 1 p.m. We have about 30 Special Olympians signed up so far, so if you know someone who would like to participate, contact the YMCA and we’ll get you in.

Fall leagues are now forming. Labor Day is the starting point. The day after Labor Day we start bowling the fall season, and here is a quick listing of what’s available:

The Monday night mixed league will be comprised of four-member teams, with play starting Sept. 13 at 7 p.m.

The church league will be comprised of four-person team— any combination of adults and youth—begins Sept. 21 on 7 p.m.

The NFL Doubles league begins two-person teams bowling 4 games and has a nightly pay-out. Play starts Sept. 7 at 7:30 p.m.

In the Senior Fun Bunch league, colored pin strikes and spares win money. In-between games win prizes. Play starts Sept. 16 at 1 p.m.

The Wednesday SuperMixed league has four-person teams with $4,000 going to the overall first place team. Play starts Sept. 8 at 7:30 p.m.

The Thursday A.M. Coffee Ladies Trio league starts Sept. 9 at 9:30 a.m.

The Major/Minor Trio league consists of three-person teams with at least one youth bowler. Play starts Sept. 16 at 6:30 p.m.

In the Friday Rollers Doubles league, bowlers can choose to bowl the full season or a half-season. Play starts Sept. 10 at 7 p.m.

The USBC Youth Bowlers league is comprised of three-person teams which will participate in state and regional tournaments. Play begins Sept. 10 at 10 a.m.

New this year is the Coach’s Corner Instruction League. Doubles teams play a short season. Myself, along with two other certified bowling coaches, will spend at least 30 minutes providing hands-on instruction to bowlers followed by three games of competition. Play starts Sept. 18 at 1 p.m.

The Major/Minor league just finished up their summer session and here’s how they ended up. Pin Smashers (Sara Shreves, Wayne Hall and Ron Shreves) took first honors. Second went to “Chuck Norris” (Niklas Isler, Michael Evans and Mike Isler).

The Monday Night Mixed league goes into its final two weeks with Rolling Thunder five points ahead of B.I.F. The best games of the summer belong to Alan Giles with 279, Kendrick Williams with 276 and Evelyn Hughes with 234. The best series are 726 by Alan, 704 by John Topper and 625 by Evelyn.

The Masters has a lot of teams vying for the top prize of $2,000. Scrabble is in first by two points over H.B. Roller and six points over Team 2 and the Prowlers.

Within the next two weeks, we will be starting up the 2010-11 edition of the Bainbridge Bearcat Bowling Club. We started this last year and came in 7th in the state. Club membership is $15 per person; membership includes a T-shirt, a USBC Youth membership card and includes the first bowling session. There is a tournament in October, so the bowling team try-outs will start right away. See Mrs. Pamela Isler at the high school to join the club. She will give you a meeting date. We will meet once a month as a club, $5 will get you two games and pizza. The bowling team will bowl weekly, with practice sessions thrown in for coaching. The cost for the bowling team is $5 per week with four games being bowled each week.
