Stevens, Nesmith win state swim medals

Tara Marie Stevens and Lucas Nesmith turned in medal-winning performances for the Bainbridge-Decatur County YMCA Extreme swim team at the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association (GRPA) State Meet Friday, July 23 and Saturday, July 24 in Tifton.
The team is coached by Karla Norris of the Area Tallahassee Aquatic Club (ATAC) program.
In the finals, Stevens—swimming in the 11-and-12-year-old girls division—was third in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 38.69. She was fourth in the 100-yard individual medley with a time of 1:15.51. Nesmith—swimming in the 15-to-18-year-old boys division—was eighth in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 28.64. He was eighth in the 100-yard individual medley with a time of 1:06.27.
Stevens qualified for the finals with a 37.92 50-yard breaststroke preliminaries time and a 1:15.84 100-yard individual medley preliminaries time.
Nesmith qualified for the finals with a 28.53 50-yard butterfly preliminaries time and a 1:05.12 100-yard individual medley preliminaries time.
Also competing was Thad Whitaker, who turned in a time of 48.55 seconds in the 9-and-10-year-old boys 50-yard freestyle preliminaries.
