Recently graduated Bainbridge High School baseball player Tyler Hutchins is one of several Bearcats playing with an all-star team this summer.

Hutchins is on the Georgia Southwest All-Star Team, comprised of talented players throughout the region. Hutchins was the starting third baseman for the Bearcats this past spring, hitting for an average of .434, with 36 hits, 29 RBIs and four home runs. He also pitched for the Bearcats. Hutchins received the John Hambrick Award for having the team’s highest batting average.

On the weekend of June 4-6, Hutchins’ team played in a tournament in Rome, Ga., at the stadium used by the Rome Braves, the Class-A minor league affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. The stadium, which seats 5,105 people and was built when the team moved from Macon, Ga., in 2003, has been the playing home of several current Atlanta Braves, including catcher Brian McCann, shortstop Yunel Escobar and pitcher Tommy Hansen.

Several of Hutchins’ teammates have signed to play NCAA Division 1 college baseball or were drafted this month in the Major League Baseball draft. The team’s coaches included Craig Garner of Troup County, Chad Parkerson of Thomas County Central in Thomasville, Ga., and Tony Kirkland of Colquitt County.

Highlights of Hutchin’s senior season at BHS included pitching a combined no-hitter with Thomas Timmons in the Bearcats’ first game against Liberty County in February, and hitting home runs in all three of the region playoff games against Harris County in May.

Hutchins is the son of Kaye and Gordon Hutchins of Climax. He hopes to continue playing baseball in college.
