Nine-through-14-year-old youngsters with aspirations of pitching and catching for the Bainbridge High School Bearcats baseball team in the future had the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of the two positions this week.

The occasion was Monday and Tuesday’s 11th annual Future Bearcat Pitcher and Catcher Camp at the new Bearcat Field.

Bearcats head coach Scott Miller, along with junior varsity head coach Kevin Bearden and middle school coach Troy Thomas, schooled the pitchers on the proper form and balance when throwing from the windup and the stretch.

Bearden worked with the catchers on their catching and throwing. He taught them how to grip the ball when throwing to a base to try to get a base runner who was attempting to steal. Former Bearcats right handed pitcher Jeremy Coram, who pitches for the Valdosta State University Blazers, was a camp instructor as well.

Monday and Tuesday’s camp was the second Future Bearcat Camp of the summer. On Monday, May 31 and Tuesday, June 1, Coach Miller and his staff held a fundamentals camp for 7-to-14-year-olds.
