Lady Cats seventh in state track

Five members of Coach Tandria Phillips’ Region 1AAAA champion Bainbridge High School Lady Cats track team won medals Saturday while leading their team to a seventh-place finish among 48 teams at Saturday’s state Class AAAA finals at the Hugh Mills Memorial Stadium Track in Albany.
Medal winners included Nancy Session, who set a new school record in finishing second in the 400-meter run in a time of 55.59 seconds.
Jerisha Sutton also set a new school record in finishing fourth in the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 45.01.
Session also won a medal in the 200-meter run, finishing fifth in a time of 25.17.
Capturing a medal with a fifth-place finish time of 4 minutes, 41st of a second was the Lady Cats 4-by-400-meter relay team of Khadeeijah Cooper, Diamond Bouie, Jerisha Sutton and Nancy Session.
While there are 88 Georgia schools in Class AAAA, only 48 schools scored points at the state meet.
Session reached state with a first-place 400-meter run time of 56.60 at the Region 1AAAA meet in Albany.
Sutton got to state with a first-place 300-meter hurdles time of 46.62 at the same meet.
Other state qualifiers were Session with a first-place 200-meter run time of 24.93, and Sutton with a first-place 17-foot, 20-inch long jump,
The Lady Cats state medal-winning 4-by-400-meter relay team of Cooper, Bouie, Sutton and Session was first at the Region 1AAAA meet with a time of 4:07.96.
Coach Phillips praised her team for their strong performances during the regular season and at the Region 1AAAA and state Class AAAA meets.
“We had a great season that included some girls track school record-breaking performance that were history making,” she said. “I am proud of all our young ladies.”
