Bessie Baker

Funeral services for Bessie Mae Baker, 86, of Donalsonville, were held Monday, June 14, at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home with Chip Oakley officiating.

Interment will be in Corinth Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery in Iron City with Maurice Wessinger, Kenneth Wessinger, J.W. Turner, Chip Oakley, Ronnie Varnum and Charles O. Walker acting as pallbearers.

Born in Donalsonville, Ga. on Jan. 22, 1924, Mrs. Baker died Friday, June 11, 2010, at Donalsonville Hospital.

She had attended Corinth Free Will Baptist Church and was a homemaker who worked on the farm. She will always be remembered as a person who found a way to laugh or smile no matter what the circumstances.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Junior Baker; a son, Hewey Dawson; a granddaughter, Ellen Varnum, and a brother, Howard Turner.

Survivors include a daughter, Pat Ferguson of Columbia, Ala.; a son, Bernard Dawson, of Columbia, Ala.; a brother, J.P. Turner of Daleville, Ala.; three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends and “adopted” family members.

Evans-Skipper Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
