Funeral services for Ann Groover Wells, 84, of Quitman, Ga., will be held Tuesday, June 15, at 11 a.m. at the Climax United Methodist Church with the Rev. Wayne McDonald and Chaplain Darwin Box officiating.
Interment will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery with Larry Wells, John Moore, James Yerkes and Harry Stafford serving as active pallbearers. Visitation will be immediately following the funeral services.
Mrs. Wells died on June 12, 2010, surrounded by family. During her lifetime, she was an ardent humanitarian, always seeking to help those less fortunate. She possessed a flair for creativity and enjoyed the arts. She was a retired teacher and librarian of 30 years with the Brooks County School System.
One of eight children, she was born Sept. 25, 1925, the daughter of James Raymond Groover and Bessie Wilkinson Groover, and was also raised by the late Mr. and Mrs. Jack Wilkinson.
Mrs. Wells was a member of the Quitman United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 62 years, James Hubert Wells, and by her parents.
She is survived by two sons, Jim Wells of Sylvania, Ga., and Ray Jones of Claxton, Ga.; one daughter, Susan Wells Moore of Tallahassee, Fla.; six grandchildren and several beloved nieces and nephews.
