Syrupmakers down Cats 28-0

The Cairo High School junior varsity Syrupmakers pulled away late Thursday to down the Bainbridge High School junior varsity Bearcats 28-0 at Centennial Field.

Syrupmakers quarterback Michael Conley ran off the right side for three yards and a touchdown with 5:32 left in the first quarter and the extra point kick was good, giving the visitors a 7-0 lead.

Syrupmakers defensive lineman Bosley Lewis fell on a Bearcats fumbled punt in the end zone for a late first-quarter touchdown. The extra point kick was again good, giving the Cairo visitors a 14-0 lead.

On the Syrupmakers next possession early in the second quarter, Bearcats defensive back Terry Reynolds intercepted a Syrupmakers pass at his own 35-yard line and returned it 28 yards to the Syrupmakers 37-yard line.

Following the interception, the Bearcats drove to the Syrupmakers 20-yard line before the drive, which featured a pair of 10-yard runs by running back Terry Lewis, stalled.

The Syrupmakers final two touchdowns, which came in the fourth quarter, were scored by  Marcus Henry on a 3-yard run with 2:18 remaining and Michael Washington on a 1-yard run with 50 seconds remaining.
