Funeral services for Agnes Virginia Jacobs Barnes Bailey, 91, of Chicago, Ill., were held Oct. 9 at First African Baptist Church in Bainbridge with the Rev. A.L. Thompson officiating.
Interment was in Pineview Cemetery with friends of the family acting as pallbearers.
Mrs. Bailey was born in Bainbridge on Nov. 25, 1918, and died Sept. 26, 2010, in Chicago.
She received her elementary and high school education from Union Normal School in Bainbridge before obtaining elementary education degrees from Central City College in Macon and Georgia State College in Savannah.
She taught in the Early County School system for eight years and one year at Union Normal School, before beginning her work with kindergarten children. She was owner and developer of The Community Kindergarten. In 1965, she semi-retired and moved to Chicago, where she spent 21 years at Toddle-In Child Development Center of Chicago.
She loved to travel, touring the United States, Mexico, Canada and Puerto Rico.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Simon Bailey.
Survivors include her son, Simon Bradford Bailey of Chicago; two daughters, Agnes Theresa Wright of Douglasville, Ga., and Barbara Bailey-Singelton of Chicago; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.
Bruton Mortuary was in charge of local arrangements.
