Alice Connell

Funeral services for Alice Eloise King Connell, 69, of Bainbridge, Ga., were held Monday, Nov. 22, at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Danny VunCannon and Mike Bowman, and Dr. Lynn Massey officiating.

Interment followed at Oak City Cemetery with Stuart Kelly, Chris Kelley, James Jordan, Mike Andrews, Roy Connell and James Connell Jr. serving as active pallbearers.

Mrs. Connell was born March 17, 1941, in Bainbridge, Ga., the daughter of Jesse Glen King and Ethel Lee Lynn King. She died Nov. 19, 2010, at Memorial Hospital.

Mr. and Mrs. Connell owned and operated a Sears Authorized Catalog Sales Merchant Store in Centre, Ala., and Bainbridge for more than 30 years. She was a member of West Bainbridge Baptist Church where she was a member of the Sunshine Sunday School Class. Mrs. Connell was a lifetime member of the Gideon International Auxiliary, and served as president of the Gideon International Auxiliary Bainbridge Camp for two years. She was a member and former treasurer of Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and an American Red Cross volunteer.

She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Harley McGatha; her brothers, Brewster King, Denmark King and Grover King; and her sister, Sadie K. Hargraves.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Scott Connell of Bainbridge; her son, Randy Connell and his wife, Sarah, of Bainbridge; her daughters, Alecia C. McGatha of Centre, Ala., Debbie C. Bowman and her husband, Mike, of Moody, Ala., and Angie C. Meisenheimer and her husband, Bill, of Crawfordville, Fla.; her brothers, Raymond King of Bainbridge and Allen King of Donalsonville, Ga.; her sisters, Edith King of Donalsonville and Onez Lee of Bainbridge; her grandchildren, Thomas McGatha and his wife, Shannon, Scott J. Bowman and his wife, Maribeth, Brooke Alice Bowman, and George “Cubby” Cuthbert; and her great-grandchildren, Ellarie Fayth McGatha and Caden Thomas Dale McGatha.
