Lucious B. Humphery

Funeral services for Lucious Bartow “Smokey” Humphery II, 67, of Miami, Fla., were held Friday, Dec. 3, at Nelson Chapel AME Church with the Rev. James A. Platt officiating.
Mr. Humphery was born Sept. 19, 1943, in Bainbridge, Ga. He died Nov. 22, 2010.
He attended Mount Zuma Missionary Baptist Church in Bainbridge, and attended Hutto High School, where he excelled in sports and was captain of his football team.
He married his childhood sweetheart, Nellie Lockett, who preceded him in death.
He served in the U.S. Army for several years and upon his discharge went to work for Allright Parking System of Miami for many years, retiring in 2002. This enabled him to devote his full time to Smokey’s Car Wash, established in 1975. He continued to work every day as a maintenance person until his death.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his father, Lucious Bartow Humphery, and a brother, Joseph Freeman.
Survivors include his mother, Lillie Mae Freeman of Bainbridge; four children, Stephanie Humphery Fredrick, Lucious Bartow Humphery III, Vernadette Humphery and Shareka Humphery, all of Miami; a very dear and close companion, JoAnn Cain; three sisters, Lois McCullough of Chicago, Ill., Annie Salami of Bainbridge and Glendora Robinson of Houston, Texas; five brothers, George Freeman, Louis Freeman, Walter Freeman, Samuel Freeman, all of Bainbridge, and Thomas Freeman Jr. of Douglasville, Ga.; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a host of relatives and friends.
Bruton Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.
