Edward Winbush

Funeral services for Edward Winbush, 87, will be held at Emanuel Missionary Baptist Church on Fowlstown Road on Wednesday, Feb. 2, at 3 p.m. with the Rev. James Banks officiating.

Interment will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery behind Emanuel Church. A final viewing will be at the church from 1 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

Mr. Winbush was born Sept. 21, 1923, in Decatur County, Ga., and died Jan. 28, 2011. He was educated in Decatur County schools, served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945 in World War II in Europe. He was an active member of the American Legion Post #502 in Bainbridge, and a member of Tabernacle AME Church, then Mount Zion AME Church where he served as steward, Sunday School teacher, superintendent, choir member and every capacity needed. He retired from Elberta Crate and Box Company in 1988.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carter and Winnie Holt Winbush; his wife, Lillie Mae Moore Winbush; a son William Clark Winbush; and two sisters, Zilpha and Lizzie Winbush.

Survivors include his sister, Peddie Burney Edwards, nieces, aunts and a host of other relatives and friends.
