Bearcats play well in All-Star game

The North Florida senior All-Stars edged the Southwest Georgia Senior All-Stars, 20-16, in Saturday’s “War of the Border” Senior High School All-Star football game at Moultrie’s Mack Tharpe Stadium.

The Southwest Georgia team featured three Bainbridge High School Bearcats: defensive tackle and Region 1-AAAA defensive player of the year Shammai Wilburn, cornerback Quincy Fortson and defensive end Anthony Jackson.

Southwest Georgia jumped out to the early lead and led 13-10 at halftime.

Dan Linze of Trinity booted a 42-yard field goal with 11:09 remaining in the third quarter to increase the Southwest Georgia lead to 16-10.

Bearcats head coach Ed Pilcher said he got good reports on the play of all three of his seniors in Moultrie.

“I was unable to attend the game because I had another commitment, but my son Doug Pilcher, who coaches our outside linebackers, went and said they all played well,” Pilcher said. “Doug said Shammai made some big-time plays, Quincy covered his receivers well and Anthony had a couple of tackles.”

North Florida went ahead to stay, 17-16, when Will Thomas of Wakulla ran 23 yards for a touchdown with 5:55 left in he third quarter and they added the extra point.

A 30-yard field goal by Tallahasee Leon’s Sean Allen, later in the third quarter, accounted for the final three points of the game.
