Bearcats Football position preview: Aggressive on the D-line

The Bainbridge Bearcats look to use speed and aggression to their advantage on the defensive line.

Defensive Line Coach Brian McCorkle said he wants his lineman to play physically and work hard to get to the ball.

“We’re just aggressive, aggressive, aggressive,” McCorkle said. “We want to attack, play on their side of the football.”

McCorkle said that the line is missing two 3-year starters from last year’s team. Filling those spots is one of his objectives this off-season.

“We got to replace two guys that played a lot of football for us the last three years with the smart twins,” McCorkle said. “We have two guys that played an awful lot last year coming back, Bradley Marshburn and Don’Terrius Williams.”

Marshburn, a senior, is stepping into a leadership role on the team this season. He said having the new responsibility “feels great” and that he enjoys leading his guys. In that, he’s helping his teammates develop their style of defense.

“We’re not the biggest line, but we’re fast,” Marshburn said. “We try to out-speed our opponents and be more physical than they are.”

Coach McCorkle said he wants his lineman to understand their physicality and to be in shape when it comes time to put the pads on in August.

“I want to see progression,” McCorkle said. “Get a little better every day, and have no days where we go backwards.”
