Lady Bearcats basketball finds its footing at Valdosta tournament

Bainbridge High School’s women’s basketball team “got their feet wet” over the weekend at a tournament in Valdosta, GA.

The Lady Bearcats finished 2-3 in the tournament. Head coach Danny Evans said he was happy with how the team played.

“For a young squad that I have, that was very good,” Evans said. “The games that we lost, it could have went either way.”

The young team, with only three seniors on the roster, is regrouping from last season. Evans said the “core group” is back, and he’s focusing on implementing a new play style for them.

“We’re going to push the ball more this year,” Evans said. “We’re going to be faster and more athletic than we were last year.”

He said he saw the playstyle work with the team over the weekend and added that the girls liked playing the high-paced offense.

“They want to get out and run, they want to get out and ride,” Evans said. “I’m putting everybody in positions where they can succeed.”

Over the summer, Coach Evans said he wants to see the team become comfortable with the new playstyle and pinpoint the team’s strengths and weaknesses.
