Hutto’s FFA team wins area event

Hutto Middle School’s FFA team placed first, and West Bainbridge Middle School placed third in the recent Area V FFA Parliamentary Procedure Career Development Event (CDE).
The event was held at Berrien County High School in Nashville, Ga., on Jan. 20.
The Hutto team will advance to the state competition at the FFA/FCCLA Center in Covington, Ga., on March 21.
Hutto Team members were Jason Long (presiding officer), Caroline New (secretary), Taylor Harrison, Briana Sapp, Taylor Strickland, Jakob Thorn, and alternates Hannah Bius and Sarah Anne New.
West Bainbridge Team members were Morgan Powell (presiding officer), Annie Duncan (secretary), Savanna Chason, Trey Suber, Cody Powell, Sydney Manley and alternate, Beth Hodges.
Participants in the event develop leadership skills and learn to effectively participate in business meetings.
The competition includes a written exam, oral questions, presentation of the team’s ability to handle motions, and evaluation of the official meeting minutes recorded by the team secretary.
Jesse Kelly is the Hutto FFA adviser, and Kaye Lynn Hataway is the West Bainbridge Middle School FFA adviser.
