Back on the job

Sorry for the lack of articles on the Decatur County Senior Center, but I was out with surgery. I’m back now so keep your eye out for the wonderful things going on here in Bainbridge with our Seniors.
First of all, let me say I’m sorry to Robert Mott. Mr. Mott was our Senior of the Month for January and we would very much like to acknowledge his help to our center. Mr. Mott is married to Frances Mott, who we also love and admire, and he’s been married to her for 50 years this past Jan. 20. They have two children, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
They have lived in Bainbridge for the last three years and have been coming to the center for the last two years. They attend First Baptist Church, and Mr. Mott retired from the ministry before coming here, so I’m sure First Baptist enjoys having them. Mr. Mott enjoys playing the pipe organ, piano and camping and the outdoors. He also enjoys cooking.
We here at the center have enjoyed both his cooking and his playing, and we want him to keep up the good work. We love it, so keep it coming.
Congratulations on being Senior of the Month for January.
February Senior of the Month
And now to play catch up, our Senior of the Month for February is Dan Arnold.
Many of you around town know Dan from his poppy selling for the VFW and his mornings at Hardee’s. He also used to call bingo at the VFW on Highway 27. He is also a member of the American Legion here in Bainbridge.
He is single and has two children, who live in North Carolina. He has four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He has a wonderful friend, Ms. Minnie Owens, who has been coming to the center with him for the last two years and has always been helpful to the center.
He retired from Amoco and also served 12 years in the Air Force. He loves to fish and doing ballroom dancing. He goes all over the area to dances, and we have had the enjoyment of watching him dance here at the center at our dances and he is wonderful. Ladies you don’t know what you’re missing if you haven’t danced with Dan.
Dan also helps put the flags on the graves of our veterans here in Decatur County. Thank you, Dan for all you do, and we know no one deserves to be Senior of the Month for February more than you do. Congratulations.
Bingo night March 5
Mark your calendars for bingo night and chili supper on Thursday evening, March 5. I’ll give you all the details next week. But just be ready to have your bingo partners ready for great games and great prizes at the Decatur County Senior Center.
Valentine’s party
Our seniors were given a wonderful Valentine’s party by Ms. Dot, Ms. Belinda and Ms. Betty, including a nice fish lunch from Port City Seafood.
Our king and queen were voted on my all those attending, and the winners were Jack and Katie Dasher. Congratulations to Jack and Katie and hope you enjoyed your baskets of prizes.
I’ll save the rest of the news for next week and know that I’m glad to be back as your reporter for the all news coming from the Senior Center. Come visit us or call for information to Ms. Dot or Ms Belinda at 402 W. Water St. or 246-8672. Have a great week.
