A Bainbridge woman was killed after her vehicle overturned in a vehicle accident that occurred Monday afternoon, according to Bainbridge Public Safety.
Shortly before 1 p.m., Anna Mae Hicks, 51, of 144 Melissa Dollar Drive in Bainbridge, was driving her minivan north on Scott Street.
The female driver of a pickup truck, Lynda Kaye Dodson, 54, of Bainbridge, was traveling east on Broughton Street, pulled out from the stop sign at the intersection of the two roads. Dodson’s truck struck the minivan and caused it to overturn, said Major Walter Landrum.
Decatur County Emergency Medical Services first responders initially reported Hicks to have a pulse, but soon lost the pulse and they were unable to revive her.
Hicks was not wearing a seat belt when the accident occurred, Landrum said.
Landrum said Dodson stopped at the stop sign before pulling. He said she stated she did not see the other vehicle on the roadway. She was issued a citation for failure to yield right of way at a stop sign.
Blood alcohol content test samples were taken from both Dodson and Hicks to be sent to the lab for testing although Landrum said he did not expect alcohol to have been involved.
Hicks was pronounced dead by Decatur County Coroner Peter Bruton.
Bainbridge Public Safety officers and Decatur County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the accident.
