Monson, Forrester named MVPs

The naming of Katie Monson and Bobby Forrester as most valuable Lady Cat and Bearcat tennis players highlighted the recent Bainbridge High School tennis awards party at the home of Jim and Joan Overman on Twin Lakes Drive.
Monson, who played No. 1 singles, helped lead the Lady Cats to the Region 1AAAA championship and the Elite 8 round of the state Class AAAA tournament.
Forrester, played No. 2 singles for the Bearcats.
The coach’s awards, presented by Lady Cats and Bearcats coach Nicki Shockley for hard work and dedication, went to No. 2 singles player Kylie McGlincy of the Lady Cats and Caleb Inlow of the Bearcats.
Earning most improved player awards were Malori Maxwell of the Lady Cats and Xavier Bell of the Bearcats. Maxwell teamed with Anne Reynolds at No. 2 doubles and Bell played No. 1 singles.
Shockley said she was extremely proud of the play of both teams during the 2009 season.
“The girls really had a great season, winning the Region 1AAAA championship and making it all the way to the Elite 8 round of the state Class AAAA tournament,” she said.
“The boys also played well and got better and better as the season progressed. The players on both teams had great character and a a great work ethic,” Shockley said.
