4-H Forestry Judging teams sweep competition

Eleven Decatur County 4-Her’s have been spending the past few months preparing for the stiff competition they encountered at the District Forestry Field Day in Randolph County.
The Junior Team of Levi Adkins, Joey Sloan, Anders Austinson, Josiah Austinson, Stennes Austinson, Jacob Christie and Daniel Ray placed first in the Junior Division for grades fifth through eighth.
Josiah Austinson was high individual for the Junior Competition, and Levi Adkins was second high individual.
The Senior Team consisting of Mariah Avery, Garrett Christie, Cherise Dryden and Emily Ray took first-place honors in the Senior Division.
Emily Ray was highest senior individual and Cherise Dryden was third high individual for the Senior Division.
4-Her’s competed in compass and pacing, insect and disease identification, forest evaluation and tree volume estimation.
Teresa Adkins serves as coach for the teams.
Senior team members advanced to the state competition held at Rock Eagle near Eatonton, Ga., on Sept. 19, where they took sixth-place honors.
