Second-grade students at Jones-Wheat Elementary School have been studying Georgia Creek and Cherokee cultures. Upon completion of an in-depth study, students enjoyed at field trip to the Lower Muskogee Creek Tribe’s Fall School Day. The Lower Muskogee Creek Tribe, located in Whigham, is an ideal learning environment for children. Students participated in activities that included a visit to the Social Square where students heard the history of the Eastern Creek as well as experienced Creek Stomp Dancing. The tribe also had a Living Village set up with storytelling, demonstrations of Muskogee Creek tools, weapons and much more. This field trip was made possible by a grant from the Decatur County Schools Foundation.
