Funeral services for James Grady “Bud” Powell, 87, of Iron City, Ga., were held on Thursday, Jan. 21, at the chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home in Donalsonville, Ga., with the Revs. Herman Enfinger and James Scarborough officiating.

Interment followed at Corinth Freewill Baptist Church cemetery in Iron City, Ga., with Gary Cunningham, Robert Bullock, Marlon James, Lanny Williams, Kevin Enfinger and Jimmy Hardy serving as active pallbearers.

Born in Houston County, Ala., on May 16, 1922, Mr. Powell died on Jan. 19, 2010, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, Ala.

Mr. Powell attended New Harvest Worship Center and was a retired mechanic and truck driver.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Vernell Powell; a sister, Elizabeth Powell; and three brothers, Mack Powell, Fernnie Powell and Robert Earl Powell.

Survivors include a son, Edward Powell of Iron City; two daughters, Betty Sue Mathis of Colquitt and Linda Preston of Laurel Hill, Fla.; a brother, Arthur Powell of Dothan, Ala.; and three sisters, Mavis Calhoun and Evelyn Cobb, both of Dothan, and Sue Travis of Mobile, Ala.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren

Evans-Skipper Funeral Home in Donalsonville was in charge of arrangements.
