Funeral services for Jessie Miller Sr., 77, of Attapulgus, were held Saturday, Feb. 20, at Greenshade African Methodist Church near Quincy, Fla., with the Rev. Gloria Long officiating.

Interment followed in the church’s cemetery with Mr. Miller’s nephews serving as active pallbearers.

Born Nov. 3, 1932, in Decatur County, Mr. Miller died on Feb. 12, 2010, at Dothan Medical Center in Dothan, Ala.

Mr. Miller held the position of steward in his church for almost 30 years and was a dedicated member. His favorite saying was “The work you do, shall speak for you.”

Survivors include his wife, Virgiline Sweet Miller; three sons, Jessie Miller Jr. and Morris Miller, both of Bainbridge, and Anthony Miller of Atlanta, Ga.; seven stepchildren, John Dixon, Perry Sweet and Lamar Sweet, all of Bainbridge, and Georgia Miller, Bobby Sweet, Shirley Campbell, Diane Brown and Alice Sweet, all of Attapulgus; four sisters, Sarah F. Banks of Quincy, Fla., Eula Williams of Attapulgus, Emma Chambers of Atlanta, Ga., and Rebecca Miller Vaugh of Havana, Fla.; a brother, James Miller of Detroit, Mich.; an aunt, a sister-in-law, four grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.

Bruton Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
