Gator Gitter in Boat Basin
Published 2:51 pm Tuesday, May 11, 2010
Benny West, Colquit Georgia’s Champion Gator Gitter, on Friday took out a huge gator at the Boat Basin in Bainbridge, then early evening he took out one at Wingate’s near the launching ramp then he was headed to a third location for another big lizard. Pretty busy day if I do say so.
The only tournament activity we had this weekend was the “Price Rite Sporting Goods” of Valdosta. This being Mother’s Day weekend is most likely the reason. First place went to Lonnie O’Neal and Harry Thornton with 18.11 pounds and big fish at 6 pounds. Second place went to Jimmy Cumbie and Bill Thomas with 18.05 pounds. Third Place went to Randy Hinton and Robby Brooks with 14 pounds.
We have had a good week on crappie.
“Bugs” Coky of Quincy, Fla., took 30 eatin’ size on minnows Saturday. We had 15 crappie in one boat Thursday, 18 crappie from another boat, 27 taken on jigs Wednesday. Tuesday after the rain, a big box of crappie was taken on jigs and minnows.
On Wednesday, 22 bass were taken, two at 7.3 and 7.8 at the 4-foot level. Twenty nice bass taken Thursday on plastic.
The Jack Wingate Thursday Night Big Fish Tournament was won by Weaver and Guthrie with 3.916 pounds.
I must take a break to tell you a nice thing I learned in church last Sunday. Miss Fannie Crosby wrote hundreds of Gospel songs, three of which was sung by our choir—“To God Is Our Glory, Blessed Assurance and Redeemed, How I Love to Proclaim.” She lived to be 94 years old and was totally blind. What a great lady.
There was lots of crickets sold this week; however, the heavy rains has muddied the lake down to near Abergs, then there is fishable water for bream.
Saterday mid-evening, I lay down to rest awhile and was woke up by a awful storm of lightning, wind and rain. It blew down trees, limbs and moss all over the area. One pine near the dock, 90-foot tall, fell and missed everything. I lay back down and woke up to clear, sunshine and no wind. Some kind of weather.
The C&R Trail will be here this coming Saturday. He has a good payout on his tournaments. The Bainbridge Memorial Tournament will be here on Saterday, the 30th of May.
