Bainbridge College Technical Studies Division will offer for the first time firearms training as part of its Criminal Justice Technology Program, said Barbara Stephens, the division’s interim chair.
The class is offered for summer term, which starts in June. It will meet all day Friday and Saturday the first two weekends, and all day Saturday the third weekend. Supplemental materials will be presented online.
Enrollment information and course details, including the fact that students must supply their own weapon, are available from the Tech Studies Division.
To register for the class those interested must call Tech Studies at (229) 248-2530 and give their contact information that will be submitted to Instructor James Spooner for approval.
Designed to prepare students who will attend a basic mandate law enforcement academy to qualify with a semi-automatic service weapon, the class will cover firearms safety and basic marksmanship and be taught by Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certified firearms instructors. It qualifies for the HOPE Grant.
Priority is given to students already approved by Georgia P.O.S.T. Council to attend a basic law enforcement academy and those employed by a law enforcement agency. P.O.S.T. training credit will be given to certified officers. Other students may be accepted after successful background check and as class size allows.
