Feeding the hungry

Thanksgiving started a little early on Wednesday, as community volunteers began feeding 200 to 250 persons. Catherine and Kenneth Ellis started the effort three years ago, and this year, Lonnie Watson joined in with Community Empowerment. Mrs. Ellis said they did all the cooking, which meant she got off work at 4 p.m. Tuesday and was up until 4 a.m. Wednesday finishing the meal of turkey, dressing, sweet potato casserole, beans, greens, rolls, peach cobbler and all the fixings. She will do it all again on Thanksgiving morning for her family. “We wanted to bless others before we bless ourselves.”
