Miss my ‘my guy’

My black lab didn’t come home a couple of Saturdays ago.

About three o’clock in the morning he woke me up. Apparently the deer or other game were out and about. He had to answer the call of the wild, and like a fool, I opened the door and let him out.

I have had him for just over a year. He was 12 weeks old when he picked me to go home with. Very cute. I’m at a point in my life where I was thinking this would probably be my last dog. He seemed like a pretty good one to go out with.

I started looking and calling right away. I put out signs about him being missing and that I would pay for his return. That first Monday I drove up to The Post-Searchlight and with Joey Cowart’s kind help I got an ad up and running.

People called. A lot of really nice people. They called to tell me about possible sightings. They called to give me advice for finding him. They called to share their own experiences with lost dogs. Lost pieces of their hearts. They called to give me encouragement and to tell me they were looking for my guy. Those calls, those people, all touched me deeply. I am forever grateful for them.

The dog has a very sweet and gentle nature. It seems unreasonable that by this time he could still be on the loose. I know I would give him food and shelter if I were to come across him. There may be a person who wants and needs this guy, in his mind, more than I. I only ask that you think again about returning him to me, you not abuse or hurt him, that you give him food and water that you bring him in when it’s cold, that you love him twice as much as I do.

Sincerely,
