The first Robert Baggs Invitational Golf Tournament, which organizers plan to make an annual event, will be Friday at Bainbridge Country Club.
All proceeds from the tournament, which will be a four-person, team-scramble event and will get underway with a 1 p.m. shotgun start, will be used to help pay medical expenses incurred by the honoree in his fight against pancreatic cancer.
Baggs, who has won numerous tournaments over the years at Bainbridge Country Club, played on a Region championship golf team at Bainbridge High School and was a member of the University of Florida Gators golf team from 1966 to 1970.
Baggs said he is overwhelmed by the formation of the tournament and the great support he has received from friends, neighbors and fellow golfers, both spiritually and financially.
Entry fee for Friday’s tournament is $100 per player and checks should be made payable to the First Presbyterian Church for the golf tournament. Players 65 and older can play from the senior tees.
First-, second- and third-place team prizes will be presented based on the number of teams. There will be a special hole in one prize.
Special hole prizes will include football tickets to the Auburn, Mississippi State game, the Louisiana State, Alabama game, the Georgia, Florida game and the Florida Vanderbilt game as well as to be announced Florida State, Georgia and Georgia Tech games.
