Bearcats second after first day of state meet

The Bainbridge High School boys track team was second following Thursday’s first day of competition at the three-day state meet in Jefferson, Ga.
Pope High School of Marietta led the way with 25 points, while BHS trailed with 19 points. Bearcat Delonte Martistee won the AAAA triple jump championship with a leap of 47 feet, 2.5 inches, despite straining a hamstring.
Others gaining points for the Bearcats on Thursday were Jamar Venisee-Cosby, with a sixth place high jump of six feet, two inches; Steven Crowell with a sixth-place shot put heave of five feet, three inches; Dewayne Gurley with a seventh-place discus throw of 152 feet, six inches and Rohan Gaines with an eighth-place long jump leap of 21 feet, 10 inches.
