Scripture: Revelation 22:1-9

Aim: To remind the believer of the glorious salvation that has been provided in Christ.

Golden Text: “And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve Him” (Revelation 22:3).

All the difficulties, adversities, heart aches, pain, disappointments, debilitation, weakness, sickness, disease and death are the results of sin in the human race!

Further, all the briers, thorns, weeds and adverse things in nature (including storms, floods, pestilences) are in this universe because of the sins of the human race!

One would think that since this is the case men would be avidly seeking God’s remedy and forgiveness for sin. Yet, men clamor after more sin! Instead of drawing near to God, they are hurrying to withdraw from God and His control.

Pitiful man!

Unless he turns and casts himself upon the mercy of God through Christ he will be destroyed.

This lesson opens the door for men to get a small glimpse into the place where God and Christ will dwell with all the born-again saints for all of eternity. Oh, that men would believe today!

I. God has provided eternal life for all who will receive it (Revelation 22:1-2). Man needs water and food in order to live while in this flesh.

In Heaven there will be life-giving water and there will be ample supplies of food, which may be enjoyed by the saints forever even though food will not be necessary to maintain the perfect bodies.

II God will provide eternal provision for the saints (vs. 1-2). The river of the water of life flows from the throne of God. As long as God lives and sits upon His throne, his subjects will enjoy constant and eternally the water of life.

Also, provision has been made for eternal food. Think about the pleasures we enjoy through the eating of food here now. In God’s New Earth the enjoyment will be increased a hundredfold. There will be eternal, joyous provision!

III. God will give eternal freedom from the awful curse of sin (vs. 3). “And there shall be no more curse” (vs. 3).

Hallelujah! the curse of sin will be eternally over. It is all because of salvation in Jesus Christ, which He provided through His death on the Cross.

As the old Negro song says, We’ll be “free at last, free at last!” The curse of sin and all its effects will be gone.

IV. God’s eternal presence will be enjoyed by the saints continually (vs. 3). God’s saints and angels will be in the presence of God’s Eternal Throne and the Lamb of God (Jesus Christ).

The hymn writer wrote, “Oh, I want to see Him, look upon His face!” The saints and angels will be in His presence forever. Such joy has never been known upon this earth!

V. God’s saints are eternally His personal possession (vs. 4). “They shall see His face; and His name shall be in their foreheads” (vs. 4). “Branded” by the Eternal God to be eternally His! What wonder! What glory! What unsurpassed joy! Eternally God’s “lock, stock and barrel.”
