Visitation for Vester McLendon, 95, of Donalsonville, Ga., will be held at First Baptist Church in Donalsonville from 1 to 3 p.m. on Monday, May 30.

Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Anderson and Dr. Ron McCaskill officiating.

Graveside services will be held at Friendship Memorial Gardens in Donalsonville. In case of inclement or extremely hot weather, interment services will be conducted at the church. Casketbearers will be Mark Miller, Wayne Shelnutt, Todd Bradley, Gregg Barnett, Greg Brown and LaDon Swanner Jr.

Mr. McLendon was born Sept. 5, 1915, in Miller County and died May 25, 2011, at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle, Ga. He lived his whole life in Miller County and the Donalsonville and Colquitt area, working mainly as a farmer. For the last two years, he lived in Monroe, Ga., at Great Oaks Gardens.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom Watson McLendon and Katie Bell McCorkle McLendon; his wife of more than 50 years, Eunice Drake McLendon; his sister, Marie Hatcher; and his brother, Leon McLendon.

Mr. McLendon is survived by three daughters, Patrica Miller of Madison, Ga., Peggy Shelnutt of Snellville, Ga., and Dot McLendon of Windsor, Colo.; seven grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jessie Mae McLendon Broxton, who currently lives at Seminole Manor Nursing Home in Donalsonville.
