David McCann, M.D. was born Sept. 29, 1960, at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, Mass. and died peacefully at age 50 at the Bob Kemp Hospice in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, on Aug. 8, 2011, surrounded by his loving family.

Dr. McCann was a former resident of Donalsonville, Ga., and a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bainbridge.

He was the cherished and loved husband of Donna (neé Scott) for 22 years, and devoted father of Michael, Catherine, Maria, Danielle, and John-Paul. He is also survived by his brother Ronald McCann; his sister Linda Johnston (wife of Wayne Johnston), and their children Jennifer and Matthew, all of Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. He was preceded in death by his loving parents Gordon and Mary McCann (neé Connolly) of Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada.

David’s other family was his disaster response team, Florida One Disaster Medical Assistance Team, deploying out of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., under the auspices of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. David was the team’s Chief Medical Officer since 2004, and coordinated medical disaster relief preparations in numerous places including Port-au-Prince, Haiti, after the 2010 earthquake, and Mississippi and New Orleans, following Hurricane Katrina. David also responded to the 9/11 tragedy in New York City. David was never so happy as when serving disaster victims with his beloved Florida One DMAT.

Marlatt Funeral Home of Dundas, Ontario, Canada, is in charge of the arrangements.
