The funeral service for Ricky Helms, 57, of Climax, was held on Monday, Sept. 5 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Emory Carlton and Elder Gary Blanton officiating. Interment followed at Pisgah Cemetery in Climax with Wayne Blanton, Stacey Knight, Thomas Josey, Eddie Josey, Kenny Josey, Glenn Godwin, William Howell, Michael Davis, and Michael Blanton serving as active pallbearers.
Mr. Helms was born August 1, 1954 in Colquitt, the son of K. T. and Erie Lily Jackson Helms. He died Friday, Sept. 2 at his residence. He was a retired heavy equipment operator and trucker, better known as “Slow Poke.” Mr. Helms was a member of Community Primitive Baptist Church of Whigham.
Mr. Helms was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Roger Helms; and his two sisters, Maudeen Helms and Bonnie Lou Church.
Survivors include his wife of ten years, Vicky Josey Helms of Climax; his son, Christopher Helms and his wife, Ashley, of Cairo; his daughters, Melody Cox and her husband, Allen, of Hedgesville, W.Va., Amy Byrd of Climax, and Rhonda Currin of Whigham; his brothers, Joe Helms and his wife, Pat, of Gulf Breeze, Fla. and Danny Helms and his wife, Linda, of Colquitt; his sisters, Betty Hawthorne and her husband, Larry, of Climax, and Linda Dukes and her husband, David, of Eldorendo; four grandchildren, Jade Helms, Payton Cox, Kelly Currin, and J. R. Currin; several nieces and nephews; and his special pet, Tippy.
Ivey Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
