The memorial service for Mercer Robert Baggs II, 62, of Bainbridge, will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Kenneth B. McKenzie and Dr. Gerald A. Little officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, at Ivey Funeral Home.
Mr. Baggs was born September 17, 1948 in Savannah, Ga., the son of Mercer Robert Baggs and Vivian Evans Baggs. He died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011, at his residence. He was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Class of 1966, and the University of Florida, Class of 1970. Robert was a member of the 1968 national champion golf team for the University of Florida. Mr. Baggs was a lay minister, and a teacher at Bainbridge Probation Substance Abuse Center. He was a member of Bainbridge Country Club, where he won the club championship more than 20 times. He will be remembered for his loving heart for God, Jesus, his sons, his church family, for learning, helping others, and his love of living.
Survivors include his sons, Mercer Robert Baggs III and his wife, Tiffany, of Orlando, Fla. and Evans Baggs and his wife, Natalie, of Mill Valley, Calif.; his sisters, Betty Grace Sport of Pensacola, Fla. and Penny B. Kwilecki and her husband, Gerard, of Bainbridge; and his grandchildren, Malin Baggs and Mallory Baggs, both of Orlando, Fla. Mr. Baggs was preceded in death by his brother, William Baggs.
