Bainbridge senior defensive tackle Shammai Wilburn, the Region 1-AAAA defensive player of the year, had a strong All-Star performance Friday in Columbus, Ga.
Wilburn played for the South Georgia Senior All-Stars in the annual Georgia Athletic Coaches Association (GACA) North-South Senior All-Star game, which was won by the North, 20-3. Wilburn helped keep pressure on the North Georgia quarterbacks throughout the game.
Bearcats head football coach Ed Pilcher, who attended the game, praised his former player’s performance.
“Shammai played well in the All-Star game,” Pilcher said. “He got four or five pressures on the quarterback and caused him to hurry the play.”
Wilburn and two senior teammates, quarterback Quincy Fortson and defensive end Anthony Jackson, will play for the Southwest Georgia Senior All-Stars when they take on the Northwest Florida Senior All-Stars in the “War on the Border” All-Star Game Saturday, Jan. 14, at Mack Tharpe Stadium in Moultrie, Ga.
