The Decatur County Board of Commissioners approved Tuesday at their regular board meeting to purchase four flex joints that are needed at the wastewater treatment plant at Decatur County Air Industrial Park.
The joints will be purchased from Aqua-Aerobic Systems at a cost of $27,800. They are four 18-inch stainless steel 30-degree flex joints; two are required per decanter.
The flex joints are the same diameter, but a different length, than the existing flex joints.
In other business, the board:
• Approved the low bid for metal paneling at the new agriculture building on Vada Road. The low bid was from Dixieland Metals of Dothan, Ala., at the cost of $23,352.12.
• Proclaimed the month of February as Black History Month. According to the resolution, all residents are encouraged “to join [us] in honoring the many contributions made by African-Americans throughout this county and to participate in the many educational events honoring the contributions of Black Americans.”
• Heard from citizen Terry Ellis during the public participation portion of the agenda. Ellis asked if it would be possible to send letters to county employees, when citizens wish to thank them for doing a good job.
Board Chairman Dr. C.T. Stafford said he would consult with legal personnel and see if there could be a way designed to allow Ellis’s request.
