Funeral services for Roosevelt Conyers Sr., 64, of Warner Robins, Ga., were held Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Warner Robins, with Pastor Josh B. Kirvin Sr. officiating. Interment was in Magnolia Park Cemetery, Warner Robins.

Roosevelt Conyers Sr. was born in Decatur County on Aug. 31, 1947, the eldest child of the late Deacon James L. Conyers Sr. and Mrs. Lovie M. Conyers. He died Friday, March 2, 2012, after a lengthy and courageous bout with cancer.

He joined Mount Zion Baptist Church in Bainbridge at a young age, and was later ordained a deacon in 1979 at New Hope Baptist Church in Anchorage, Alaska. When he moved to Warner Robins, he joined First Baptist Church of Garmon Street, where he was active in church ministries and served as an usher.

He was a 1965 graduate of Hutto High School in Bainbridge, and attended Bainbridge Junior College and Fort Valley State University.

He served in the U.S. Army, where he saw service in Vietnam. He retired from the Army in 1987 and relocated his family to Warner Robins. He retired from Robins Air Force Base in 2001.

Mr. Conyers was married to Dorothy L. Jackson, who survives him. Other survivors include two children, Roosevelt Conyers Jr. and Bohdana C. Conyers; two grandchildren, Kiana Conyers and Shamonte Gardner; mother, Lovie M. Conyers; siblings, James L. Conyers Jr., Gwendolyn L. Conyers, Ralph O. Conyers Sr., Patricia C. Mitchell, Kenneth J. Conyers Sr., William A. Conyers, Cedric A. Conyers, Michael E. Conyers, Dexter B. Conyers, and Robin E. Conyers; godparents, Luther and Gwendolyn Conyers and a host of other relatives and friends.

Nelson’s Memorial Mortuary of Warner Robins was in charge of the arrangements.
