Services for Joel David “Joey” Maxwell, 20, will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at the Whigham Baptist Church, Whigham, with the Rev. Harold Burrell and the Rev. Steve Poppell officiating. Interment will follow in the Maxwell Hill Family Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Murry Maxwell, Cuy Harrell, Chris Harrell, Patrick Anderson, Blake Voyles, Walt Ponder, Rhett Ponder and Adam Knight. Honorary pallbearers will be Jordan Harrison, Stephen VanLandingham, Brice Edwards, Cole Whigham, Jeremy Thomas, Bradley Jones, Trey Kimmel, Ryan Andrews, Will Jones, Skylar Hawthorne, Brittney Harrison, Becca Collins, Kendall Blair, Hunter Pickles, Brandie Turner, Benjamin Palmer, Richie Hawthorne, Matt Godwin, Tyler Shook, Cole Shook, Richard Maxwell, Hunter Darley, Holton Darley and William Anderson.
Joey was born Oct. 20, 1991 and passed away on Sunday, March 25, 2012. He was a student at Bainbridge College on the current Dean’s List with plans to transfer to the University of Georgia in Fall 2012, to pursue a degree in Agricultural Engineering. He graduated from Cairo High School in 2010, as an Honor Graduate. While in high school, Joey was active in FFA, 4H Shotgun Team, the Outdoors Club, the Key Club, National Honor Society and French Honor Society. He was a past member of Boy Scout Troup 383 of Whigham and had achieved Life Rank. He was a member of Whigham Baptist Church and will be best remembered for his incredible sense of humor and his ability to make people smile.
Joey was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Mather Marvin and Edrie Georgiann Maxwell; uncles, Wayne Maxwell, Joe Maxwell; aunts, Ellen Maxwell Strickland, Lori Maxwell; and cousin, David Maxwell.
Left to cherish his memory are his parents, James R. “Chub” and Susan Darley Maxwell of Whigham; his sister and brother-in-law, Ashley and Jeremy Faircloth of Whigham; his maternal grandparents, Lamar and Betty Darley of Bainbridge; his uncles and aunts, Bob and Evelyn Maxwell of Whigham, Tom and Diane Maxwell of Whigham, Buck and Martha Maxwell of Whigham, Billy and Vanita Maxwell of Whigham, Jack Maxwell of Camilla, Steve and Susan Maxwell of Whigham, Cuy and Ann Harrell of Whigham, Sonny and Julie Darley of Bainbridge, Joe and Gloria Anderson of Panama City, Fla., Coley and Lil Voyles of Bainbridge, Dot Maxwell of Cairo; and numerous cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends at the family home at 964 Maxwell Rd, Whigham.
