Bainbridge senior running back Damian Bouie had just two carries in the Bearcats’ 38-11 scrimmage victory over Chamblee on Friday night, but he made the most of them.

Bouie finished with two long touchdown runs of 46 yards and 43 yards, as the Bearcats jumped out to a 25-3 lead at halftime. His senior backfield mate, running back Terry Lewis, added seven carries for 55 yards, as well as a 91-yard touchdown return that came up just short of the end zone.

“We did some good things out here tonight,” Bainbridge coach Ed Pilcher said. “Both of our running backs made some big plays. We’ve still got some things to work on before we head into the regular season.”

Bainbridge’s opening regular season game is Friday, Aug. 24, when the Bearcats host East Gadsden (Fla.) at Centennial Field at 8 p.m.

Bainbridge scored on its first offensive play Friday night. After holding Chamblee to a three-and-out, Bainbridge’s Cameron McDowell returned a punt 40 yards to the Chamblee 9. Bainbridge junior quarterback Preston Norris faked a dive and then cut it to the left side for a 9-yard touchdown, and Daniel Provence added the extra point to put the Bearcats up 7-0 with 8:38 left in the first quarter.

Chamblee cut that lead to 7-3 with a 39-yard field goal with 11:53 left in the second, but the Bearcats responded on their next drive. Bouie broke away from defenders for a 46-yard touchdown run and Provence added the extra point to make it 14-3 in Bainbridge’s favor.

The Bearcats added four points off two second-quarter safeties, and closed out the first-half scoring when Bouie added a 43-yard touchdown run with 5:56 left in the second. Provence kicked the extra point to put the Bearcats ahead 25-3.

Bainbridge kept the offensive momentum going on the opening kickoff of the second half, when Lewis caught the ball at the Bainbridge 8 and returned it all the way to the Chamblee 1, getting tripped right before the pylon. On the next play, Norris handed off to Lewis and he broke in for a 1-yard score. The extra point hit the left upright and Bainbridge led 31-3 with 11:40 remaining in the third quarter.

Bainbridge’s final touchdown was a 2-yard run by sophomore quarterback Hayden Guy, with 8:49 left in the fourth quarter.

Chamblee scored a final 12-yard touchdown run and two-point conversion with 1:54 remaining in the game.

“We’re happy that there were no injuries, at least that I’m aware of,” Pilcher said. “Now we’ve just got to get back on the practice field and get ready for next Friday.”
