Fred Harvey Ward Jr., 81, of Albany, Ga., died Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, at Phoebe North Hospital. Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at Mathews Funeral Home, with Rev. Greg Davis officiating. The Tri-County Memorial Club presented Masonic honors. Entombment followed at Crown Hill Cemetery with military honors. The Hasan Legion of Honor served as active pallbearers.

A native of Bainbridge, born to the late Fred and Sara Johnson Sr., Mr. Ward graduated from Bainbridge High School and moved to Albany in 1956. He was a chief warrant officer in the Georgia Army National Guard, served in Desert Storm and retired after 38 years of service.

Mr. Ward was a member of Central Baptist Church and The American Legion Post No. 30. He was a member of and Past Exalted Ruler of The Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks,
Lodge No. 713 in 1993 and served as Past District Deputy. He was also a member of Dougherty Lodge No. 591 F&AM and Hasan Shriners, where he was a member and Past Commander of The Legion of Honor.

Mr. Ward was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah (Dee) Ward, in May of this year.

Survivors include his daughters, Brenda G. Ward of Orlando, Fla., Donna W. Craig of Barnevald, N.Y. and Wendy Ward Waller and her husband, Seth of Springboro, Ohio; three sisters, Sara Lou Duce of Austin, Texas, Jessie Parker of Springhill, Tenn., and Carolyn Phillips of Bainbridge; a brother, Charles Ward of Donalsonville, Ga.; and two grandchildren, Luke Ward Waller and Maura Surin Waller, both of Springboro.
