A Georgia Department of Transportation crew is expected to begin road work on West Shotwell Street in downtown Bainbridge within the next week, according to city of Bainbridge officials.
The project area will be West Shotwell Street, between its intersections with Broad Street and the U.S. Highway 27/84 bypass. Road work signs were put up on Friday in anticipation of the work beginning.
DOT workers will mill and resurface approximately 0.6 miles of West Shotwell Street.
“It’s my understanding that they will mill the road at night and pave during the day,” said City Public Services Director Steve Winburn. “They will maintain traffic on the street while the work is being done and have flag men to direct motorists.”
Winburn said the DOT crew will likely use two milling machines to break down the existing blacktop on each side of the road, in turn, and then re-pave the street with new asphalt. In all, the work should take about a week to complete once it starts, weather permitting, Winburn said.
