Lady Cats fall just short

The Bainbridge Lady Cats had a strong last-minute rally Friday night, but came up on the short end of a 2-1 loss to Hardaway at Centennial Field.
Trailing 2-0 late, Bainbridge got on the board for the first time with just 47 seconds left in the game. Sophomore forward Longeisha Emanuel took advantage of a misplayed ball by the Hardaway goalkeeper, kicking it into the net from 8 yards out.
The play was started when Bainbridge sophomore midfielder Jennifer Becerra sent in a cross from the left side and the Hardaway goalie tried to corral it, but it bounced away from her hands and to Emanuel, who sent the ball into the empty net.
The Lady Cats tried to put together one last offensive surge, but ran out of time.
“I was proud how our girls fought to the end after getting down 2-0,” Bainbridge coach Chip Ariail said. “Following the goal, we even had another attack near Hardaway’s endline at the final buzzer, but unfortunately we just could not finish enough of our chances today.”
Both teams worked hard in the first half, but the goalkeepers came up with timely saves to keep the first half scoreless.
Hardaway scored a goal in the 47th minute to take a 1-0 lead, and Haley Harrison scored in the 77th minute to increase that lead to 2-0.
Bainbridge finished Region 1-AAAAA play with an 0-5 record. The Lady Cats are 4-9-0 overall. Bainbridge’s next game is Wednesday, April 10, against Monroe, at 5:30 p.m. at Centennial Field.
